The feeling of being disconnected from reality is one of the toughest symptoms to deal with through a depressive event. This bad feeling causes the depression sufferers to move away more further into their own world. They turn out to be out-of-the-way from their loved ones and friends and the misery and loneliness triggers the depression.
Here are some ways that can help you deal with depression.
Try to have at least one person you can be with, someone you can turn to and have a regular contact with 3 to 4 times a week. Someone you can depend and lean on when you’re not feeling well. Someone you can have conversations with when you need to talk, someone who can be at your side and who can be with you anytime. No need to talk more about how you feel and be clear that you do not want to make a big issue about what you feel.
There will be times that you just want to be alone and shut out the world such as just being in your bedroom. This is not uncommon but you should try not to make used to it. You can do this once or twice a week. Make it balanced. Being alone once or twice a week would not be bad at all but be sure to be around with people, especially with those people very close to you or just someone who will be there for you when you need them.
When you do shut the world out, you should do it in a positive way that will help you. Make yourself busy such as playing mind games like mind puzzles, crosswords, logic problems, spatial puzzles and more. You can also draw or paint, write stories, play musical instruments, read a book, listen to some music or watch TV. But be sure to avoid heavy or deep music or stories in a book you’re reading. Always keep it nice and light. This will help you a lot on fighting against depression and not worry too much about your problems.
And if you feel so much isolated and life seems to be a virtual reality, then please to these ways mentioned above. The best key to fight isolation which is a part of depression is to identify how it happens and use to it. This will definitely help you from being trapped in it.
