What Causes Headaches?

Headaches mainly originate from nerve irritation which is triggered in the nerves connected to the muscles in the shoulder, neck, or scalp. The causes could be stress, tension, high blood pressure or low blood sugar, extreme temperatures, eye strain, sinusitis, and head injury, to name a few.

What are the Symptoms?

You may feel pain and tightness around the head and behind the eyes and neck. You could have blurred vision, poor appetite, upset stomach, ear pain or feel too hot, too cold or extremely lethargic.

How to Cure a Headache?

You can always pop a painkiller for quick relief, but in the long run this could harm your body. Natural remedies are the best for curing headaches. You can apply the paste of sandalwood and rose water on your forehead. This will cool your head and bring relief. You can add one teaspoon of lavender leaves to a cup of boiling water, cool and drink it thrice a day.

If your headache is quite severe you can crush a little onion and cumin in a blender and put it on your head. Leave it on for 30 minutes. This can be messy and may cause tears so cover your head with a shower cap. Once your headache has disappeared, wash your hair with shampoo to remove the strong odor.

You can try lemon juice mixed with one cup of tea to reduce the severity of a headache. You can also make a saturated mix of henna flowers and vinegar and apply it on your forehead. Inhaling the aroma of rosemary is also effective. Boil a cup of rosemary in water, cover the head with a cloth and inhale the vapors to relieve pain.

You can try to drink aloe vera water or take aloe vera gel two to three times a day to decrease headaches caused by hyper-acidity. If you suffer from headaches quite often, prepare a mixture of carrot juice (300 ml) and spinach juice (200 ml) and drink it daily. You can also make a paste of cinnamon and apply on it on your forehead.

Try peppermint steam inhalation for quick relief. As it is a decongestant, it will ease headaches due to sinuses. Try eating a jalapeno as soon as possible and this will help the pain subside. You can also use the paste of dry ginger with a little water or milk and apply it on your forehead. Ginger helps in relaxing blood vessels and reduces swelling in the brain. Take honey with every meal to reduce the pain. Eating freshly sliced apples every morning will prevent headache.
