It’s time for Summer

It’s time for red toenails and strappy sandals again and you can pack away the winter woollies at the back of your cupboard! Can you believe that we had snow in Gauteng a few weeks ago and now it is lovely warm summer weather again?

No more stodgy stews and mulled wine, but salads and braai and staying outside and enjoying the pleasure of warmer weather. It’s not quite warm in the evening yet, but any self-respecting South African can be outdoors again.

And yes, we have been hiding a few bulges beneath the big jackets, but would you believe that I think there’s a new solution in town? This, to me, is the answer to those small little bulges that can so spoil a wonderful summer outfit.

Cryolipo Fat Freezing

The new procedure works with cold temperatures and when a low temperature is applied to those bulges, it ‘freezes’ a localised area for a controlled period of time. Once the cooling procedure is completed, the fat cells are freed into the lymphatic system and are gradually eliminated from the body via the body’s natural metabolic process. The great news is that normal skin is not affected, but subcutaneous fat (the fat directly under the skin), which is more sensitive to cold, begins a two month elimination phase. The expected result can be two or three centimeters less in that problem area which sounds like a great result to me. Almost a dress size! Each treatment takes about an hour or two and depending on the thickness of the resistant fat, one to three treatments may be needed. These treatments can be repeated every 45 days and can be used on all skin types and for those over the age of 16.

Method

There are either one or two suction and cooling heads that are independently controlled and these have large surface areas that are placed on the problem area. The Cryolipo cooling heads generate a vacuum that temporarily decreases blood flow to the treated area, immobilises the fat tissue and isolating the treated area from the surround skin and tissue. If one area is treated, like the tummy area, then one head is needed, but when bra bulges are treated, both can be done at the same time. It is basically a reduction of the thickness of the fat layer.

Then the low temperature is applied and the ‘freezing’ occurs after which the fat cells are liberated into the system and gradually eliminated.

Usual Problem Areas

The areas that most of us women battle with would be that little pouch over the stomach area, and the muffin top just above the hips (thank goodness those low, low hipsters are not the only jeans available any more), then there are those of us who battle with saddle bags on the thighs. On our backs there are often bulges where the bra straps confine us and on the inner arms there are often those extra little ‘wings’ that are quite unnecessary.

Nothing serious, but if we can gently and safely remove them, why should we carry extra baggage around?

The procedure is non-invasive and you can carry on with your usual routine after treatment, although there might be a bit of numbness or tingling that will disappear after a while. When compared to plastic surgery, tummy tucks, liposuction and some of the more invasive and dramatic procedures available, this is certainly a better option and should be considered. For my money I would ten times rather do this than suffer surgery, bruising and aesthetic.

The cost is reasonable, one cooling head placement which will treat one area such as the abdomen and  two cooling heads that will treat two areas such as love handles or bra bulges. The results are expected to last and those treated still showed persistent results after a year. The elimination of the fat cells is expected to last as long as those of invasive procedures such as liposuction.

Have a wonderful summer!
